OS MELHORES SHOWS DE 2006
Ah, não foi um ano ruim de shows. Claro que sempre tem aqueles que gostaria muito de ter visto (Lambchop, Neil Young, The Killers, The Elected, Jenny Lewis, pra citar alguns), mas não dá pra ir em todos. Acho que foi o suficiente. Óbvio que o primeiro lugar tinha que ser o Flaming Lips, pois o shows deles é uma experiência épica que todo ser humano que se preze DEVE ter. Outros destaques vão para a teatral apresentação dos Guillemots, a criatividade do Tilly And The Wall, a nostalgia do My Life Story e Clientele e a explosão do Automatic. NEIL YOUNG – “Living With War”
Apesar desse álbum ter sido lançado no meio do ano, foi só recentemente que pus meus ouvidos nele. E que prazer tive quando isso aconteceu. Nos últimos anos temos visto ao redor do mundo um crescente número de discos-protestos contra as maluquices e idiotices de George Bush, mas poucos desses oferecem qualidade musical. Esse álbum de Neil Young não é apenas um disco-protesto, é um dos melhores da carreira dele. Simplesmente o velhinho acordou um dia e se deu conta que deveria protestar contra a guerra sem sentido do Iraque e seu grande causador, Bush. Escreveu as letras e compôs as músicas na pressa, em um mês; as gravações foram feitas mais na pressa ainda, 12 dias. A produção é simplória e crua, mas é essa simplicidade que faz de “Living With War” algo real e válido.
Imediatamente depois de prontas, Neil Young disponibilizou as faixas na internet, com a letras, junto a um manifesto anti-Bush. Logo depois, o cd foi fabricado e foi para as lojas, e Young caiu na estrada para dar shows e protestar. Naturalmente o maior valor dessa obra será creditado nos nervosos e inflamados versos que Young escreveu contra o presidente dos EUA, mas o que, pelo menos para mim, vale mais, é a qualidade das dez canções aqui presentes. Logo nos momentos iniciais da primeira faixa “After The Garden” percebemos algo de especial, com guitarras abençoadas, a magistral voz de Neil Young e um coral de 100 pessoas. “Living With The War” não traz absolutamente nada de novo quanto a carreira de Neil Young, apenas as mesmas gemas cruas e religiosas que ele vem gravando nos últimos 40 anos com sua banda Crazy Horse. Os destaques são: “Flags Of Freedom”, “Living With War”, “The Restless Consumer”, “Families” e “Lookin' For A Leader”. Ou seja, praticamente o disco inteiro.
Todas as letras retratam, basicamente, a fúria contra Bush, a guerra no Iraque e patriotismo americano. Ao invés de citar algumas passagens de algumas letras, é melhor publicar na íntegra a letra da faixa “Let's Impeach The President”, uma das mais poderosas do cd, e um forte ataque ao presidente dos EUA.

Quando lemos as letras e ouvimos a música, ficamos, mesmo não sendo norte-americanos e estando envolvido com a Guerra, com muita raiva de Bush. Mais do que já tínhamos. Vale lembrar que essa faixa foi o carro-chefe do disco, com seu video clip, que você vê abaixo, sendo exibido em vários meios de comunicação nos EUA.

BLOOD RED SHOES
Essa é a dupla que perdi no festival da semana passada. Estão tocando no circuito underground aqui de Londres já faz tempo, mas só me dei conta agora. Lançaram dois singles até o momento, em vinil limitado 7”. Ambos são bacanas. Tudo bem que é mais uma banda art-rock e que já não agüento mais isso, mas essa realmente vale a pena. A guria que toca guitarra parece que toca bem, é confidente nos riffs. Se continuarem assim com esse visceral punk-angular-art-rock, o álbum será uma delícia. BEST ALBUNS 2006
Calma, ainda não é minha lista. Essa vem semana que vem. A seguir você confere três listas dos melhores discos de 2006. Tem da loja de discos londrina Rough Trade, da NME e da revista inglesa Mojo. Como já sabemos, listas são listas. Nenhuma é perfeita. Sempre vai ter aquele disco que você amou e foi esquecido pelos críticos. Paciência. A lista da NME tá dentro das expectativas. A única loucura foi colocar The Automatic em 42° lugar, sendo que, para os leitores da NME, deveria estar no top 5, no mínimo. A Rough Trade é mais abrangente, óbvio, pois lista 100 títulos. Pra mim é a melhor, pois colocou as Pipettes no top 10 e disse que é o melhor disco pop desse século. Quanto a Mojo, essa foi a lista que menos gostei até agora. Colocaram em primeiro lugar um disco que eu achei CHATÍSSIMO. God....

Guillemots realmente é a melhor banda do planeta. Esses dias fuçando no YouTube achei essa pérola, com eles tocando nas ruas de Paris. Isso sim que é atitude; tocar para as pessoas pelo simples prazer de tocar. Imagina você andar na rua e encontrar Fyfe Dangerfield cantando "Annie, Let's Not Wait"? Ah, é nessas horas que penso que o mundo é maravilhoso. A propósito, foi confirmado que minha canção preferida deles, "Annie Let's Not Wait", foi escolhida para próximo single aqui no Reino Unido, o quarto tirado do álbum “Throught The Window Pane”. Em breve coloco o video clip aqui. Por hora, fique com Guillemots tocando nas ruas de Paris…

Guillemots realmente é a melhor banda do planeta. Esses dias fuçando no YouTube achei essa pérola, com eles tocando nas ruas de Paris. Isso sim que é atitude; tocar para as pessoas pelo simples prazer de tocar. Imagina você andar na rua e encontrar Fyfe Dangerfield cantando "Annie, Let's Not Wait"? Ah, é nessas horas que penso que o mundo é maravilhoso.
